Gastogne’s surface is composed of multiple medium sized rocky continents, usually bearing large mountain chains towards the centre of each landmass, with the more habitable plains near the coasts. Therefore, most of Gastogne’s population is located near the coastline, in highly industrial cities. Many cities have a bustling starport due to the planet’s location on the Perlemian Trade Route, which has supported the tremendous population growth despite the relative lack of arable land. Little research is done on Gastogne as it is preferred to import newer technologies from the Core, while exporting cheap manufactured goods further along the trade route.
Gastogne’s government is a representative democracy with Treikhons elected for each region on the world. The importance and voting power of each Treikhon depends on the region they represent. The Party who receives the most votes by the Treikhons in the Conclave becomes the government, with its leader becoming First Representative for the next five local years or until he is overturned in the Conclave. In the past, Threikhons were not part of any Party, but with the politicization of the economy, most Treikhons are now members of a Party, with the First Representative also usually being a Treikhon. Since the rise of the Galactic Empire, the political machine has shown itself to be as loyal to the new regime as it was to the Old Republic, trying to keep to its own affairs while accommodating the galactic government’s rare demands.
Gastogne’s population in general shows very little interest in galactic affairs. Things have remained nearly unchanged in the unimportant Sidori Sector since the colonization of the planet and so Gastogne’s population are fairly confident nothing will change drastically in the foreseeable future. Gastogne is the sector capital of the Imperial administration of the Sidori Cluster and its attitude towards the rest of the Cluster is as a capital to its surrounding regions. Its people arrogantly believe in their importance and that most other worlds in the Cluster are relatively irrelevant to the point of seeing most events in the rest of the Cluster as separate from Gastogne’s fate.
